Ephemis is designed to respect your privacy. In short: Ephemis has no Ephemis account, tracking, analytics, or advertising, and we do not collect personal data from the app.
Data you create
Ephemis stores the information you enter—your equipment (rigs and optics), observing sites, saved target projects, and session logs—on your device. If you are signed in to iCloud, this data also syncs privately through Apple's iCloud (CloudKit) between your own Apple devices. It is stored in your personal iCloud account, governed by Apple's Privacy Policy. We have no access to it.
What we collect
Nothing. Ephemis contains no analytics, advertising, or tracking software. We do not collect your identity, location, usage, or any other personal information. Astronomy calculations use the bundled catalog and run on your device.
Location
Ephemis asks for your location only when you choose "use my location" while adding or editing an observing site. Your coordinates are used on your device to pre-fill that site and calculate visibility. If you choose the site's local time zone, the app may use Apple's reverse-geocoding service to look up the time zone from its coordinates. That request is handled under Apple's Privacy Policy. Your location is never sent to us, and you can always enter a site manually without granting location access.
Third parties
Ephemis can open external links you tap—for example, an AstroBin search for a target or a Clear Outside forecast. Those services have their own privacy policies. The AstroBin link includes a target search term. The Clear Outside link includes the selected site's coordinates so it can show the relevant forecast. We do not receive or store information from either link.
Children
Ephemis does not collect data from anyone, including children.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will update this page and revise the date above.
