Does Ephemis work without an internet connection?
Yes. The full deep-sky catalog — roughly 16,800 objects — is bundled inside the app, and all calculations run on-device. You can plan a full night from a remote dark site with no signal.
Which devices are supported?
Ephemis runs on iPhone (iOS 17+), iPad (iPadOS 17+), and Mac (macOS 14 Sonoma or later). It's free — one universal app across all your Apple devices.
How does syncing work?
Your rigs, sites, and saved target projects sync through your own private iCloud account (CloudKit). Nothing is sent to Ephemis or any third party — sync is entirely between your own devices. If you're signed out of iCloud, everything simply stays local on the device.
How are targets ranked?
Each object is scored on how well it fits your rig's field of view, how long it stays above your horizon during darkness, its altitude, and how much the Moon interferes that night. You can switch between weighting presets such as narrowband, altitude-first, or moon-strict.
How do I reset my data?
Deleting the app removes all local data. To also clear synced data, remove Ephemis from iCloud in Settings → your name → iCloud → Manage Account Storage. Need a hand? Email us at the address above.
