Does Ephemis work without an internet connection?
Yes. The full deep-sky catalog—roughly 16,800 objects—is bundled inside the app, and all calculations run on-device. You can plan a full night from a remote dark site with no signal.
Which devices are supported?
Ephemis runs on iPhone (iOS 17+), iPad (iPadOS 17+), and Mac (macOS 14 Sonoma or later). It's free—one universal app across all your Apple devices.
How does syncing work?
When iCloud is available, your rigs, sites, and saved target projects sync through your private iCloud database (CloudKit). We do not receive or access that data. If iCloud is unavailable, your data stays local on the device.
How are targets ranked?
Each object is scored on field-of-view fit, usable time above your horizon during darkness, altitude, Moon conditions, and practical visibility. You can switch between weighting presets such as narrowband, altitude-first, or moon-strict.
How do I reset my data?
Deleting the app removes its local data. To also remove synced data, manage Ephemis in your iCloud storage settings. Need a hand? Email us at the address above.
