Privacy Policy

Last updated: 8 July 2026

Ephemis is designed to respect your privacy completely. In short: Ephemis collects no personal data, has no accounts, no tracking, and no analytics, and sends nothing about you to us or to anyone else.

Data you create

Ephemis stores the information you enter — your equipment (rigs and optics), observing sites, saved target projects, and session logs — on your device. If you are signed in to iCloud, this data also syncs privately through Apple's iCloud (CloudKit) between your own Apple devices. It is stored in your personal iCloud account, governed by Apple's Privacy Policy. We have no access to it.

What we collect

Nothing. Ephemis contains no analytics, advertising, or tracking software. We do not collect your identity, location, usage, or any other personal information. All astronomy calculations run entirely on your device using the bundled catalog.

Location

Ephemis never asks for your location unless you tap "use my location" while adding an observing site. If you do, your coordinates are used on your device to compute visibility, and are sent once to Apple's location services to look up the site's time zone — that request is handled by Apple under Apple's Privacy Policy. Your location is never sent to us or to any other third party, and you can always enter sites manually without granting location access.

Third parties

Ephemis can open external links you tap — for example a target's page on AstroBin or a forecast on Clear Outside. Those sites have their own privacy policies. Ephemis shares no personal data with them; it only opens a standard web link.

Children

Ephemis does not collect data from anyone, including children.

Changes

If this policy changes, we will update this page and revise the date above.
